I love Toronto. I'm proud to call myself a Torontorian, just look at the banner I have at the top: me and Toronto. It's where I was born and raised and it'll forever be where I call home. So on Monday's review of Kick-Ass , I mentioned how it bugged me seeing Toronto pose as New York City. It happens all the time and I'm sure we've all seen many movies with Toronto in disguise whether we were aware of it or not. Besides the cheesiness of it, it never really bothered me. But after watching Kick-Ass it seemed kind of embarrassing and I realized something new: Toronto is a whore. Let me explain. Prostitutes are people who take money in exchange for sexual deeds to fulfill one's fantasies. In a way, isn't Toronto doing the exact same thing? We're really selling ourselves short. I feel as though our city is telling movie studios, "Hey! You there! Come on in! Film your movies here! Just pay your taxes and we'll be whatever you want us to be!...

Yesterday, our church small group took a trip down to the Canadian National Exhibition, or The Ex as it's more commonly known. They had a wicked deal this year; between Monday to Thursdays, if you go after 5pm, entrance was only $5, compared to the regular $15. This worked well for our group since most of us worked until 5pm. My friends Matt and Tracy. The Ex is Canada's largest fair and actually the 4th largest in North America (I guess it'd be something like America's state fairs... although I've never been to one of those). There's lots to do there like losing your money to the carny games, wasting your money on expensive carny food, some shopping, some live music, and so forth. It takes place every year for two weeks at the end of summer and completes on Labour Day. It's been a number of years since I was last here and nothing much seems to have changed. Ring of Honor Wrestling returned to Toronto and put on two shows in a row at Ted Reeve's Arena. Leading up to this weekend's events, fans were unsure what was exactly going to happen. You see, right now Toronto city workers have been on strike for well over a month, with no garbage pick-ups since it began. Instead, certain city owned parks and parking lots have been made temporary dump sites for people to dispose of their garbage. Ted Reeve's Arena was one such dump site. The parking lot is filled with so much garbage that they had to close it off to dumping (it's maximum allowable capacity is at 1,250 tonnes). So we had a stinky arena and all that garbage outside of it. THANKFULLY, and I don't know how they did it, but the arena inside did not smell as bad as it did last year (when there wasn't all that garbage). If you're a DVD-enthusiast but still a cash-strapped post-secondary student, then you'll appreciate the world of used or previously viewed DVDs. I'd say about 75% of the time my DVD purchases are of the previously viewed version. Here are a few of my favourite places, highlighting some of their pros and cons. CD Cat (613 Yonge St.) CD Cat is primarily a used CD store, but it also carries an assortment of DVDs (as well as some VHS). Well on the plus side, they carry a lot of albums from scene bands. This place is good for when you're looking for any special editions of a movie or 2-disc versions. Their collection is quite eclectic compared to other stores. The drawbacks are that their collection is smaller than some and their prices can be quite high, nearing retail. Sometimes you can get a better deal at HMV with all their 2 for $20, $25, $30 deals (and they're brand new!), as compared to let's say picking up Death Proof here, which may cost you $17. ...
